(DMR) A West Des Moines junior high school teacher is facing misdemeanor drug charges after a police officer found marijuana inside a pill bottle during a search of her car on Thursday.
Katherine Seiberling was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in the 200 block of Valley West Drive. Seiberling, 38, is listed on the West Des Moines Community Schools website as an eighth grade language arts teacher at Stilwell Junior High and also as a student council sponsor.
Officer Jake Forrester pulled Seiberling over around 8 p.m. for having an “insufficient number of headlights” on a Subaru Impreza that she was driving, according to court records. Forrester could smell burnt marijuana as he spoke with Seiberling, and she admitted that she had a small amount of the drug in the car, the officer wrote in a criminal complaint.
Forrester searched the vehicle and found .6 grams of pot inside a prescription pill bottle and a yellow pipe, which Seiberling admitted was hers, according to the complaint. Seiberling told the officer that she had smoked marijuana just before she started driving, the officer wrote.
During the conversation, Seiberling appeared to have bloodshot eyes and spoke in a “slow, deliberate tone,” the officer wrote.
