Colorado legalized medical cannabis for patients with acceptable conditions on November 7th, 2000, and legalized recreational cannabis for all adults over 21 on December 10th, 2012.
Colorado continues to lead the way with liberal, yet conservative cannabis legislation that has allowed citizens to cultivate, sell, and consume cannabis in a controlled and structured system. The development of the Medical Marijuana Registry and the strict enforcement of dispensaries was the foundation that led to flawless rollout of the recreational cannabis program and legal pot shops.
Currently there are over 500 medical dispensaries and over 150 legal cannabis stores operating in Colorado state today.
