Time to start acknowledging cannabis as apart of our every day lives.

It's never been easier to find bongs, pipes and one hitters in all kinds of stores and online. One could say the pipe hasn't evolved in many years but there are still artisans pushing the extremes of the functional art and it's more accessible than ever.
***
There are lots of recommendations about what to smoke, where to buy it, how it should be, how you should be smoking. The ritualistic act of consuming and enjoying cannabis medicinally has been evolving past a quick hit and a rush. The cannabis experience is becoming not something you hide but something you share and want to share with others.

You can read about how we introduce our guest to cannabis (link: http://weedporndaily.com/blog/2017/introduce-your-guest-to-ganja-this-holiday-season text: here).

The cannabis industry faces a large issue with it's fight between commercialization and artisan crafted products. In the struggle for the balance between fine products and accessibility (link: https://www.elevatejane.com/ text: Elevate Jane) finds it's comfortable niche serving those interested in presenting their consumption & medication as another aspect of their life- deserving of a showcase through pipes, bongs and vaporizers.
(image: 39917804781_5a31f3fefd_k.jpg)
We met with Angela Mou, founder, last December at her boutique opening at See You Are Free (S.U.R.F), a fashion & lifestyle collective showroom. Cannabis has been legal for recreational use for about a month now, and if you haven't already flown your way to the west coast to get blown, or you're a native who's been living under a sober rock -- we're here to bring you 5 things to expect when you pop into your first legal pot shop!

## 1. Anyone over 21 can buy it

That's right, you can finally fly over from your prohibitionist state and get a sample of the West Coast's top shelf. You don't need to see a doctor and complain about back pain anymore, you just show your ID and pay - just like cigarettes or liquor.

(gfycat: ShimmeringAnchoredDavidstiger caption: Expect long lines at recrational shops like MedMen LAX)

## 2. The Lines Are Longer

Now that any adult can just walk into a dispensary like a candy store, you'll find that most recreational shops are plagued with long lines. Just like your favorite restaurant on a weekend, your local pot shop will get swamped reguarly now.

You'll also have to wait behind medical patients who have priority over recreational consumers. It's common to have someone walk in after you, show their medical card, and get in almost instantly while you're stuck waiting another 10-20 mins. But since getting a medical card is as easy as paying $40 over an app, you've got no excuse if your anxiety is making life unbearable 😉

## 3. The Weed Is More Expensive (It Pays To Be Medical)

Recreational cannabis is taxed at an extra 30% rate. Medical marijuana patients don't have to pay this extra tax. So an eighth that would cost you $35 as a medical patient might cost you $50 or more as recreational.

And most dispensaries haven't updated their online or shop menus. They show medical prices (30% less - aka before rec prices), so you'll have to do the mental math to ensure you don't suffer sticker shock at the register.

(gfycat: DisastrousZealousBlobfish)

## 4. There Are Shortages

Because of the boom of recent legalization, shops are swamped with newbies looking to stock up on the good green. I've been watching people come into dispensaries and buy $300-500 worth of products at one time, most of the time reaching the one ounce cap of legal purchasing power.

The weed isn't **sold out**, but you'll definitely have less of a selection than usual. It's going to look like the grocery store during a natural disaster, with that leftover hash in a can that nobody wants to smoke. But stores are **restocking constantly**, so make sure to call ahead of time to ensure they've got the dank you need.

(gfycat: IdealValidDrafthorse caption: There are no coffeeshops in California, but you can find private clubs that sell memberships to spark up on premises)

## 5. There's No Place to Smoke it

You can buy weed legally from rec shops, but you still can't legally smoke at the dispensary -- or even in public. And most hotels are non-smoking, and definitely non-cannabis. So smoking legally becomes a challenge.

Luckily police are lenient, depending on the neighborhood, so you can toke outside without too much worry. Just don't smoke and drive, they're strict on that.

There are also cannabis clubs you can get membership for like the Hitman Coffeeshop, and there's cannabis events going on every other day here where you can spark up with friends.

## Gotta love legal weed

It's been awesome to watch every kind of person walk into dispensaries now. From moms and dads to grandpas to curious college kids, all kinds of people are coming out of the woodwork to see what this weed stuff is all about now that there's no stigma. For the healthy individuals who didn't want to do a song and dance to get a medical card, it's a game changer.

Hope that helps!
Stay regular super stoners,
Oscar

It tastes great, smokes great, and looks great. This vaporizer cartridge by Habit is a stunning example of what contemporary cannabis vapes can look like when you care about creating a high quality, classy product.

When we were at the BIG Industry Show here in L.A., we stopped by the Habit booth to say ‘high’ to our homies, and we were recognized by the rep from our recent livestream where we drink the Habit’s cannabis infused soda. The were generous enough to provide us with one of their newest products to review - the Platinum Girl Scout Cookies vape cartridge. This was part of their new line of cannabis oils, they had the pure oil available as well as dank tanks. They also had indica cartridges that featured lemongrass, chamomile, and lavender — which they say enhance the relaxation effects of the high.

(image: vlcsnap-2017-12-10-22h05m11s710.jpg)

The cartridge came packaged in a matchbox style container printed with a mandala inspired floral design on the front and the Habit logo. The box slipped open to reveal the vape cartridge tucked away neatly inside a box embossed with a honeycomb-like pattern. The back of the box features a QR code to check out the strain’s cannabinoid profile and testing results, so you can verify you have a mold, pesticide, and solvent free product to safely consume.

Our cartridge was a half gram of pure CO2 oil from a Platinum Girl Scout Cookies plant, in a gold-colored metal cartridge with a ceramic atomizer. The cartridge itself was beautiful, it’s the first time I’d encountered a gold one, and they even took the time (and money) to print their logo elegantly on the mouthpiece. It’s an eye catcher on any battery, feels high quality, and really increases the perceived value of the product incredibly. The CO2 oil inside the cartridge was equally as eye catching. It was a bright, saturated yellow that has it’s hues enhanced by the surrounding gold plating.

(image: vlcsnap-2017-12-10-22h06m21s126.jpg)

As beautiful as this was to unbox and look at it, it was equally as enjoyable to vape. The flavor from the cartridge was phenomenal, with clear tones of cookies mixed with a backend of dank OG.This thing rips. It has a solid smoke density while also being impossibly smooth, so you take hit after hit without realizing you’ve gone too deep. The high from this cartridge hits you hard and fast, immediately commanding your head to inflate and simultaneously lighten, while relaxing your body and mind. While I was filming smoke shots for this review, I took one or two big hits and I had to sit down because I didn’t expect the high to hit me so hard and fast. It’s incredibly satisfying to take a few huge, tasty puffs and feel stoned pretty instantly. Not a high that I’d recommend for productivity, but if you’re just hanging out with friends or looking for some quick pain relief, I’d highly recommend this one. It’s a solid hybrid for every kind of stoner.

(image: vlcsnap-2017-12-10-22h06m50s430.jpg)

The only downside, besides the mouthpiece getting a little hot after successive hits, was how long the oil lasted. Most cartridges last me 3-4 days of heavy use, and this lasted 1-2 days. Each time I took a huge toke, I felt like I could watch the oil disappear from the cartridge chamber. As potent as the oil was, it kinda sucks it had to last half as long. I don’t know why the best things in life have to be cut so short. This is a little nitpick as well, but I really appreciate when companies put the strain name or some indicator on the cartridge. If I bought more than one of these, it’d be hard to tell which is which.

This was probably the best solvent free vape cartridge I’ve ever had, hands down. I’ve only had one other companies vape cartridge that I liked better, and they mix in PG/VG, so I’d almost prefer this one because of it’s cleaner - smoother nature. The packaging was bomb, the gold cartridge was too fancy, and the strain was tasty and potent. The only thing holding this back is the fast burning oil, a longer lifespan on this cartridge would make it perfect. The Habit’s Platinum Girl Scout Cookies half gram solvent free distillate vapor cartridge gets a 8/10 in our book for it’s high quality and high class performance.

I'm assuming it's a cross of Sunset Sherbet and a strain that tastes like Kava tea. I see them at every event and dispensary, and they always look incredible, but this was the first time we got to sink our teeth into their cookies and crispy marshmallow treats thanks to a TKO homie at VendorSesh. We are over 300mg of these edibles on a recent StonerSunday livestream to test them out, you can see that on our YouTube page. Here's what we thought of these high dose and picture perfect edibles.

The first thing you notice about each TKO edible is the dose. Each cookie is 160mg of THC, and crispy is around 100mg, which already is plenty of weed for one edible. Usually an entire chocolate bar is 160mg, so getting that dose in one mid to large sized cookie or crispy treat was pretty nice. It's easily broken into smaller doses to try out or distribute amongst friends. I personally need around 160mg to really benefit from the effects of an edible, otherwise it's too low dose to notice, so this was a great option for me. As I mentioned earlier, the edibles look awesome. I told the guy at the TKO booth that they look like they printed the cookies with a stamp, every cookie and crisp was consistent in size and appeal. And the edibles are very camera friendly, the s'mores crispy rice treat we received was a graham cracker mixed with melted chocolate and ganache and topped with mini marshmallows. It caught my eye immediately, calling to me to eat the entire thing in a stoned munchie fever. It took it to another level when the TKO rep told me some stoners torch the marshmallows on top to get a burnt s'more effect. I was sold.

Upon smelling the edibles, and after each bite, you get a strong undeniable aroma and flavor of weed. The cannabis butter tastes more like plant matter than one derived from a concentrated cannabis oil, so you get this taste of woodiness or twig in your mouth. The highest dose edible, the cookie, was the strongest weed flavor. The crispy tasted slightly less of weed, but honestly the pot taste overpowered the chocolate, graham cracker, and marshmallow. Usually even with strong tasting edibles you get past the weed taste in the first bite, but the canna flavor stuck through, only dissipating about halfway through. We also received some 10mg samples of their fruity pebbles edibles, and those were honestly the best tasting one, with little to no weed flavor.

The high itself of the edibles was pretty nice. I got an enjoyable, relaxing, silly high that was slightly stupefying at larger doses. It'd be great for eating with homies and watching a movie or playing some video games. Not an edible I'd want to pop before an office job, and maybe not even a creative job, I found my words harder to find and more difficult to convey. I didn't get a hangover or headache during or after the edibles, especially after ingesting such a sizable dose.

Overall, I'd recommend TKO Edibles for people looking for an old school edible style, with their medicated crispy marshmallow treats and weed flavor, veterans of making their own edibles will probably feel very comfortable consuming these and have no issue getting a solid and enjoyable stone. I'm personally from the camp that prefers edibles to taste nothing or as little as cannabis, but as someone who also needs higher potency, I understand the difficulty canna chefs face infusing products and masking high potency flavors. And it's hard to hate these edibles when they look so good and are so consistent, something lacking in the edible community. TKO Edibles get a 5/10 in my book for the great consistency, but overpowering pot flavor.

Completely unstable living up to it's name 'sap'. Not like Tangie where you get a sour funk, it's straight orange peel, even slightly warmed if anything like a baked good. Smells great when you open the package. Not crazy loud, but very strong smell.

Solid sativa high. Not the best, but not the worst. It gives you energy, but not as much as Tangie or Green Crack.

Pretty smooth dab. How do you create a safe space, how do you have an accessible space for patients to consume while not bothering other patrons- what about parking?! It's a balancing act that has been resolved elegantly by the team at Constellations. A multi-tiered shopping experience, Constellations 2 was a winter wonderland just in time for the holiday season. Alongside all kinds of vendors as you would any craft or farmer's market- photo experiences, music, cute pets & a smoke lounge create an inviting space for even the most tepid & curious.

***
In the week leading up to the Constellations event, I prepared to participate in a talk with Canrve on Twitter ((link: twitter.com/canrve text: you can see the talk here on their archive)) featuring all sorts of cannabis based goodies for the upcoming holidays. I was on the hunt for new products including skincare, topicals, gadgets & more.

###Location by the Beach

Tucked away on a beautiful walking street in Long Beach, the THC Design space was an incredible venue. An ideal spot located by multiple multi-story free garages, a total luxury in Long Beach. All on an empty weekend where there was plenty of parking. Surround by shops and restaurants, it was best to grab a quick bite to have a good base before shopping and sampling your way through some of the finest cannabis products in SoCal.

###Shop Comfortably with Cannabis
In the breeze and airconditioning, this marketplace is not like any farmer's market or holiday craft fair. Boutique brands gather to pass on the direct savings to passionate cannabis enthusiasts and provide a safe environment for newbies and casuals to learn & sample their offerings.

The room was bright with it's high loft ceilings and massive square footage, there was a bit of a narrow walk way through the entire event. I found myself more often than not- in other companies booth areas while looking and discussing products with adjacent or neighboring booths.
***
### Fun Finds
(image: 38781596752_28099e771c_k.jpg)
Topicals:
Cannabis is a big fear for those with sensitive skin or harsh allergies to things like ragweed and pollen. Finding allergy conscious products not thick with skin burning essential oils and eye watering abrasives- (link: http://craveskincare.com/ text: Crave Skincare) was an incredible find. Now penetrating the mainstream events and skincare marketplace, cannabis has been proven to benefit the skin, but only when properly utilized and infused into your routine. Crave Skincare provides the soft cleansers and optimum hydration for those with fussy skin and temperamental reactions.
(image: 27036321989_276dffdf30_k.jpg)
There were many brands from beyond the small central location of Los Angeles. (link: https://www.humbleflowerco.com text: Humble Flower Co) had an excellent platform for showing off Humboldt's finest during Constellations. This anything but humble product lacked lots of strong cannabis terpene profiles of NorCal bud thankfully. The smell was minimal while providing unique mixtures featuring ylang ylang, white tea & jasmine. Delicate and light these allowed for maximum absorption for pain relief. The focus on providing a product that felt right on the skin while providing relief was show most in their massage oils & bath soaks.
(image: 38096021784_6c5edc6110_k.jpg)
(image: 38781590352_60fa3afaf4_k-1.jpg)
Speaking of beyond Los Angeles, even California, (link: https://www.fromeversince.com/ text: From.Ever.Since) was a luxury skincare line founded by a pair in Miami & Barbados. There are really a wide range of perspectives and takes on the simple topicals from healing to optimum skin properties or ingredients. Instead of simply focusing on formula, the duo brought the next cannabis line I expect to see at Sephora. Having found their samples of perfecting creme at other events it was excellent to actually see the team in person. The luxurious product line fit right at home on the make up counters of the luxury department stores.

Seeing the variety of products highlighted at Constellations really provided more evidence of how large this market potential is. The demand for cannabis products has been heard- providing the next level experience it definitely being lead by the innovators here.

Smoking Products
(image: 38811952401_41f569406a_z.jpg caption: The Rice Pipe ) An unconventional offering I haven't seen before. A totally unique way of looking at filtration. If you have a friend or family looking to have a more organic and renewable resource for consuming your cannabis that does not require charred metal screens or glass shards that float into their toke- the Rice Pipe may be the ideal quick gift. The (link: http://www.ricepipe.com/ text: Rice Pipe) is essentially a style of expandable chillum. Within the chillum as a way to designate the depth of the "bowl" a coil mechanism that acts like a stand for a potted plant in the garden can be pulled or pushed into place. The designated bowl can be filled with white rice (for optimum absorption & filtration) to the chosen level.
(image: 37925665985_0420d82885_k.jpg)
Those looking for a gift for your soul sister, something from (link: https://www.elevatejane.com text: Elevate Jane ) may more be the style. Featuring the chic and must have classics from ceramic river stone pipes to pipes designed from different crystals or seashells. Headshops at many cannabis markets have a range that can be found anywhere, little random rainbow pipes from China and cigarette one hitters. Elevate Jane curates finer products for connoisseurs looking to entertain and experience through their pieces.

(image: 24939896468_0418bdb453_z.jpg)
Throughout the marketplace you could find treats to hang in your home from the works of local artist (link: https://www.instagram.com/dankcanvas/ text: Dank Canvas), famous for her #WeedWings you can find on Social Media. You can learn, paint & toke with Dank Canvas at her local events across California as well.

(image: 37925672465_66d129f410_k-1.jpg)
(image: 37925667785_6c20960766_k.jpg)
Another must have, dress up a workspace or something festive for your holidaze soiree are the pennants from (link: http://www.cannareignstudios.com/ text: Canna Reign). Unique hand designed pieces originally from San Francisco. Alongside these flags which are easy to hang anywhere, artist Camille Ochoa also creates ceramic rolling trays.
