WEEDPORN DEVELOPER BLOG
What’s up party people, I just wanted to start a new series where I keep you updated on what’s going on in the backend of WeedPornDaily. Here you’ll find out what we’ve been up to, programming developments, and how we run our canna-business.
2/23/2017 – Man, February has been blazing by. We’ve been really busy these past two weeks simultaneously being banned by our payment processor and trying to move forward with developments. It’s time to talk real about the cannabis industry.
But first, I wanted to let you guys know we will be at Kushstock and Abracadabs next month. We have a 50% off coupon code for Abracadabs tickets, type in “WEEDPORNDAILY” at checkout. If you spot us make sure to say high! You can see all of the upcoming events on our calendar, we’ve been keeping that updated.
We talked about it a bit on the last two StonerSunday livestreams, but we’ve got a lot of cool new stuff coming at you guys. We’ve been working on a whole new shop with features like reward points for purchases, animations and fancy popups and shit, and an integration with all the products from our Society6 clothing line. We’ve been working on it for a while and we were super psyched to launch it this month, before we received an email from our current payment processor (Square) informing us we were banned from their services.
We’ve had to put a lot of developments on hold as we’ve spent every business day since then getting in contact with new payment processors. If you weren’t aware, WeedPornDaily has been through a lot of the major payment processors, like Paypal, 2Checkout, Authorize.NET, and even services like eBay, Etsy, and Amazon that all have closed our accounts because we have cannabis in our name. Not because we sell weed, we never have and still don’t sell any form of dank on our website (not even CBD!) – they ban us because they see weed in our name or website. It’s a form of discrimination and prejudice at the highest regard. We’re in a society where more than half the states in our union have decided to allow for some level of cannabis cultivation, production, sale, and consumption. Why are businesses still giving us a hard time for representing the cannabis community? Talk about judging a book by it’s cover with biased eyes.
So we’ve been struggling to find someone to process credit card payments for our weed socks and stickers. It’s insane man, you talk to companies professionally and get in the door, and the second you utter the word “weed” or they see it anywhere the red flags go up, guard dogs get sent out, and you’re sucked through a hole in the floor Burns-style and ejected to a rehab across town. I run a legitimate business, much like many others in this industry, and like a lot of businesses – I don’t even “touch” the weed in my line of work. I deal with clothing, art prints, and maybe glass. And I’m treated like a guy who’s selling weed out of his car. You can see an email here from a company, outright saying “nope cant allow you cuz weed”:
We’re currently in talks with a few processors that have discriminated as well, but after a stern talking to, have seen the error of their ways (hopefully). Although payments are currently available in the shop through Stripe, we want to make sure we have a more secure option. Stripe is owned by Paypal, which has been known to discriminate against cannabis, so we don’t want to get too comfortable working with them.
On the brighter side, we’re wrapping up development on the new shop. It’ll be online soon. I’ve also cranked out 100 or so new GIFs from our content, Vice, and other weedtube videos. I also updated the WPD website to be more secure against spammers, and did a few analytical upgrades for our marketing department.
New videos are coming soon to WeedPornDaily TV. Unboxings of the Nail Crown Flower Edition and a box from Brothers With Glass are filmed and set to upload, and we’ve got quite a few reviews to script, film, edit, and upload – so keep your eyes peeled on our YouTube!
That’s about this week. I’ve been doing a lot of development on another project that you will hear about soon. We’re currently looking for beta testers, if you’ve ever shopped at a dispensary, headshop, used a cannabis lawyer, etc – send us an email titled “Beta Tester” and we’ll get back to you with more details.
Really getting back into the groove this year. It’s gonna be an awesomely stoney year, that’s for sure.
Stay regular super stoners~
